My prospects seemed to be a near insurmountable, interminable, soul sucking, body breaking task, versus a financial festival of abject folly to complete some time sensitive expansion of my garden test plots. Until I remembered the broadfork option. Since Karst and Clay ™ are involved I decided to go with the Meadow Creature Broadfork with 14” tines.
Not only have I found this tool “adequate” to the task, its use has the pleasant benefit of gently providing the physical conditioning I need to complete the later stages of this project. Without a doubt, the best tool for the job!
So easy to use!
strong as an ox
I recently purchased the Meadow Creature broadfork with 14" tines. I chose this brand and model because the handles are all metal and welded to the head with the tines, and I appreciate the durability this lends to the design. I garden on very sandy soil, and do not own heavy equipment to till organic matter into the soil, so I am using a top-down approach. The garden space I am breaking new ground on is 30'x80' and I have spread two big round bales of old hay, some goat manure, and some basic amendments on all of it. I have broadforked most of it through the hay, yet it has taken me several sessions to accomplish because it does take some work. Overall I am very satisfied with the design, build, and ease of use of this broadfork and hope that it will continue delivering for a long time to come.
Before I got my broadfork I was using a shovel and double digging. This tool does a much better job with a third of the labor and time. Highly recommend. You get what you pay for. The other options on Amazon all had fiberglass handles and comparable options were more expensive. Would recommend to anyone I know.
